The Agile Team Facilitation course is the first step towards achieving the coveted expert level in ICAgile’s Agile Coaching track (ICP-ATF certification). The instructors know their stuff, are adaptive to the group and create a great collaborative experience. Even as an experienced facilitator I came away with some useful new techniques and a deeper understanding of agile team facilitation. This goes far beyond standard agile practices and it can be a tricky task to play little part in the meeting, but still guide it in the right direction.
Driving Continuous Improvement with Facilitation Skills
To experience Agile transformation in the organization, Agile facilitation is very essential. However, the facilitator must implement the Agile facilitation in the right manner. Only the facilitator of the Agile team can fulfill the requirements of present Project Managers and other members of the team. The facilitators have been trained to run meetings effectively to produce better results in the very end.
Review the strategies required to be a servant leader and models for achieving self-awareness. The benefits of agile facilitation are that meetings are properly managed and make all stakeholders feel heard, reduce confrontation and enable a team to come up with objectives everyone can agree on. While the Agile team facilitator role might sound quite like a Scrum master role, it is different in a few key ways.

Meeting facilitation techniques are used to help the audience acquire, retain, and apply knowledge and skills. Participants are introduced to content and then ask questions while the facilitator fosters the discussion, takes steps to enhance the experience for the team members, and gives suggestions. The facilitator’s aim is to organize the process and create an environment that helps participants to reach the desired outcome.

Agile coaching helps organizations and teams to navigate the complexities of agile ways of working and realize the benefits that come with them. Ethical questions have always been part of the agile coaching profession, but there hasn’t always been clear guidance or governance around ethics in agile coaching. Learn more about why ethics matter, a draft code of ethics for agile coaches, and ICAgile’s commitment to ethical agile coaching.

Although there is not an ICAgile official exam, ICAgile allows for their course accreditors to determine appropriate means for retention of the learning outcomes. Depending on your provider, there may be some type of assessment in order to earn certification. If you are unsure if you meet this prerequisite, you should give us a call and ask. Value is discovered, defined and delivered differently in an Agile context.
Enterprise Agility
The Agile Team Facilitator (ATF) role is broader than conducting meetings. The ATF must also guide the team through the paradigm shifts required in Agile team environments and lead them towards collaboration and self-organization. To do so requires a agile team facilitation mindset shift for the team leader – the facilitator mindset. In today’s fast-paced business world, organizations are constantly seeking ways to become more adaptable and innovative, and many are turning to agile ways of working to achieve these goals.

Two weeks before the start of the course you will receive your workbook. At the end of the program you can bind them together with the slides you found interesting and other notes you took during the session, to keep as a reference. Such as powerful questions, active listening, creating coaching alliances and contract, and how to give and receive feedback in an intelligent and constructive way. The ICP-ATF training is open to all those who want to become more competent in the field of Agile coaching, but does not require any prerequisites. A team facilitator should have the ability to “walk a mile in someone else’s shoes” to understand team members’ feelings. The responsibilities of a facilitator are to understand that conflict among group members is natural and, as long as it’s expressed politely, does not need to be suppressed.
AGILE TEAM FACILITATION
You’ll have several opportunities to practice the skills and receive feedback throughout the workshop, and you’ll observe as an active participant in others’ facilitated sessions as well. This course is a fast-paced, deep dive into both the mindset and skills of facilitation in the context of agile practices. The world is changing rapidly, and it’s hard to find universal specialists who have all the necessary competencies to create the product you want. The importance of having teams with diverse specialties and experience is growing, and Agile has emerged as a way to help bring those varied voices together. Successful Agile implementation can’t be done without the effective work of an Agile team facilitator bringing together the experience and know-how of each member of the team.
